Hotel Wales Welcomes Joanna’s Back to Upper East Side
New York, NY – January 24, 2007
Joanna’s is coming back, and the excitement is building. On Feb. 3, 2007, John Opris’ renowned Italian eatery will reopen its doors at the Hotel Wales, one block from Central Park in Carnegie Hill. “The city lost an institution when Joanna’s ended its 15-year run last summer,” said Andrew Labetti, Hotel Wales general manager. “Luckily, we convinced John that he didn’t need to go far when he was ready to reopen.”
Joanna’s, originally located in a charming 92nd Street townhouse, will be reborn in a beautiful setting on the first floor of the Hotel Wales at the corner of 92nd and Madison. Described by the Zagat Survey as “a gracious owner who remembers everyone,” Opris promises to reprise the warm hospitality and exceptional Northern Italian cuisine and that have made Joanna’s a favorite in the neighborhood—and across the city.
Joanna’s will offer classic dishes and sophisticated specials, including an expanded seafood menu. The new location will feature space for parties and private dining, on-premise catering and delivery. Guests will be able to enjoy prix fixe dining and a pre-theater menu offered each evening until 6:45 p.m. And every Sunday, Joanna’s famous brunch will entice guests from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Joanna’s joins award-winning patisserie Sarabeth’s as the second dining option at the Hotel Wales. “We’re thrilled,” says Labetti. “Now our guests can savor superlative cuisine at two of New York’s best restaurants—right here in the hotel.”
